You don’t have to make a drive to West Hartford or Hartford to find enjoyment. Farmington is an outstanding place to get outside and explore. It’s home to natural retreats, such as the Stade Swamp Sanctuary, which offers 800 acres of undeveloped land and nature trails. There are also a unique variety of trails throughout Farmington, including the National Scenic Trail, two trails on the Farmington Valley Greenway, eight historic trails, and several parts of the New England Trail, including part of the Metacomet Trail. Additionally, the town of Farmington offers a variety of youth and adult sports, programs, and activities.

The Metacomet Trail traverses the Metacomet Ridge, which runs south from Massachusetts through the heart of Connecticut, passing through Farmington. In the area, hiking and outstanding views can be found along Pinnacle Rock, Rattlesnake Mountain, Farmington Mountain, and Talcott Mountain, and there are even opportunities for more technical climbing on rock walls and chimneys.
